Thinking With the End In Mind

Many times we stop and reflect upon our practice towards the end of a journey. The school year is almost over. Take a deep breath and stop for a second to think about what we do and why. This slide show of the 21st Century classroom reminds us of the what and why of what we do for our students each day!

Virginia Living Museum - From A Child's Eye!

Technology can be used by everyone! Students in Mrs. Brinker's first grade class took a field trip to the Virginia Living Museum and wanted to remember their experience. Mrs. Brinker gave her Flip camcorder to students and allowed them record their time at the museum. What they have share with us is a child's eye view of the wondrous world around them. Take a look!

Web 2.0 Applications

This site provides links to a whole gamut of Web 2.0 applications. There might be one here for you!

Do YOU Web 2.0?

Do you speak web 2.0?
The Internet allows us to be involved in and create all types of media that can not be accomplished in any other manner. That is one of the critical elements of Web 2. I could write a journal entry; but the availability of the Internet and the access to technology allows me to post a journal online for millions of readers to view (and respond to). I could add images and movies of my family to become a star on the Internet while never leaving my home! Rather than two people communicating back and forth – Web 2.0 allows many people to communicate with many others. We take for granted access to high speed Internet (that allows us to do all of those wonderful things) and we are not passive observers of information. Web 2.0 use of the Internet gives us the ability to manipulate the data that we find on the Internet. In all of this, there is a focus on PEOPLE!
Now that we know a little about the Web.20 - let’s all go and get connected!
  • You can create a blog at http://blogspot.com

  • If you like scarp booking you can create a glog at http://www.glogster.com/edu

  • Or, if you want to share lessons with your students you can create a simple pod cast using http://gcast.com (it is really easy; you use a phone to create the podcast).
Try things out for fun so that you can visualize a way to use the tools for your class!

I used the following sites as resources for this posting

Career Week at Richneck!

Last week fifth grade students at Richneck video-conferenced with a NASA educator in Hunstville Alabama at the Marshall Space Flight Center. Students joined other classes as they talked with Scott Anderson about the many possible career choices available for people who choose to work with NASA when they get older. Mr. Anderson also spoke with students concerning hobbies that could lead to careers with NASA.
